The costs are going to go up. It's actually impossible for it not too. A business would have to be out of its mind to pay for health care costs when it could pay the much cheaper fine. Then that means health care costs fall back on the individual. There will be those - much like the majority of citizens who don't pay taxes today - who will find a way not to pay this tax too. Which means you and I will take on the burden of those people much like we do now - except we will no longer have lower health insurance because our business won't pay for the majority of the costs anymore. Or, like I was trying to indicate - if a person can't afford the mandated cost now - they will be also fined - however, if they can't pay the fine, then what happens? Do they go to jail? Does this bill accrue? How in the world does that make it better for someone who is struggling? This bill helps no one. It institutes a 500 billion dollar tax on the middle class in a time when the economy is about 6 months from collapsing. All because we have some warped sense of righteousness in this country about entitlements.

I will make you a long term bet. If at the end of 2014 (like I said long term) my company and your school are both still providing health care insurance for us and didn't opt out to pay the fine, you come to Sioux Falls - and I will buy you lunch. I know it's not much of a bet, but it's the best I can do. I'm going to be shortly out of money paying for other people's right to have health care instead of being able to save and provide for my own family. :)
